Obituary of McKinnon, Irene Mary
The death occurred peacefully at Wedgewood Manor, Summerside , P.E.I. on Saturday, April 13th, 2013 of Irene Mary ( nee O'Brien ) McKinnon of Summerside and formerly of Elmsdale, P.E.I., aged 93 years. Irene was born on August 2nd, 1919 in Elmsdale, P.E.I. to her late parents Austin and Gertude ( nee O'Halloran ) O'Brien.
Wife of the late Fred McKinnon and loving mother of Raymond ( Sheila ) of Charlottetown, Reggie ( Beryl ) of Pennsylvania, USA., Roger of Summerside, Carolann ( Nabil ) El Hadi of Fredericton, N.B., Wilbert ( Stef ) of Wasaga Beach, ON., Howard ( Maggie ) of Truro, NS., Mary ( Harry ) Hutchinson, Lorraine ( Wilfred ) Smith, Geraldine ( Ivan ) Gallant and Justin McKinnon all of Summerside. Also lovingly remembered by 20 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Survived by her sister Audrey Shea of Alberton.
Besides her parents and husband, Irene was predeceased by her great-grand daughter Payton McKinnon and brother in-law Clifford Shea.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside until Tuesday, April 16th, for a funeral service in the funeral home chapel, Summerside at 10:00 A.M.. Interment to take place in St.Paul's Cemetery, Summerside. Donation's in Irene's memory to Prince County Hospital Foundation or the Wedgewood Manor Equipment Fund would be greatly appreciated. Visiting hours on Monday evening only, 6 - 8 p.m.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
