Obituary of Currie, Hazel " Olive "
The death occurred peacefully and surrounded by her loving family at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, P.E.I. on Friday, April 5th , 2013 of Hazel " Olive " Currie ( nee Gorrill ) of Summerside, aged 94 years. Olive was born on October 10th , 1918 in Glenwood, P.E.I. to her late parents John and Emma ( nee Darrach ) Gorrill.
Beloved wife of Wesley Currie and loving mother of Hazel ( Aubrey ) Morris of Delta, B.C., Lila Jean ( Paul ) Offer of Tyne Valley, David ( Sandra ) of Hartsville and Eric ( Kim ) of Summerside. Also lovingly remembered by her 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and her sister-in-law Ethel Gorrill of Windsor, ON..
Besides her parents, Olive was predeceased by five sisters and two brothers. Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Rd., Summerside until Monday, April 8th , then to Trinity United Church, Summerside for a funeral service at 11:00 a.m.. Interment to take place at a later date in People's Cemetery, Summerside. Memorial donations in Olive's memory to the P.E.I. Breast Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated. Visiting hours on Sunday, 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
