Obituary of Matthew, " Gwen" Gwendolyn Olive Mildred
The death occurred suddenly at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, P.E.I. on Saturday, January 15th, 2011 of Olive Mildred Gwendolyn "Gwen" Matthew ( nee Phillips ) of Summerside , aged 84 years. Gwen was born on March 1st , 1926 in Arlington , P.E.I. to her late parents , William & Dorothea ( nee Rodd ) Phillips.
Beloved wife of the late Thomas Matthew and loving mother of Carolyn ( Gary ) Ross of Ajax, Ont., Wayne ( Nancy ) of Summerside, Sheila ( Alan ) of Stratford, P.E.I., William ( Donna ) and Garth ( Darlene ) all of Summerside. Also lovingly remembered by her daughter-in-law Verena Matthew of Summerside , 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Survived by her sisters, Eleanor Gates of Summerside & Edna MacGregor of Lakeside, N.S., brother Dr. Carlyle ( Virginia ) Phillips of Halifax, N .S. and sisters-in-law Dolly Matthew of Summerside and Caroline Phillips of Halifax, N.S..
Besides her husband and parents, Gwen was predeceased by sons Wendell & Dale, grandson Randy Matthew, brothers Dr. Ralph Phillips, Wendell ( Ruth ) Phillips, George ( Nina ) Phillips and brother-in-law Archie MacGregor.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside until Wednesday , January 19th , then to Trinity United Church, Summerside for funeral service at 10:30 a.m. . Interment to take place in People's Cemetery, Summerside at a later date. Visiting hours on Tuesday, 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m.. Memorial donations in Gwendolyn's memory to the Prince County Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated.

ABOUT US
In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
