Obituary of Phillips, Wendell Major
The death occurred peacefully at his late residence on Wednesday, March 10th , 2010 of Wendell Major Phillips of St. Eleanors , P.E.I. , aged 86 years. Wendell was born on August 13th , 1923 in Arlington, P.E.I. to his late parents W.G. and Dorothea ( nee Rodd ) Phillips .
Beloved husband of the late Ruth ( nee Campbell ) Phillips and loving father of Judy ( Norbert ) O'Brien and Brenda Phillips all of St. Eleanors. Also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Jason ( Amanda ), Kevin ( Lisa ) and Amanda O'Brien, his great-grandchildren Aaron & Liam O'Brien along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Survived by brothers & sisters: Eleanor Gates of Summerside, Gwendolyn Matthew of Summerside, Edna MacGregor of Lakeside, N.S., Dr.Carlyle ( Virginia ) of Halifax, N.S., Carolyn ( Gary ) Ross of Ajax, Ont. and sisters-in-law Caroline Phillips of Halifax, N.S. & Annie ( Ernest ) Hardy of Summerside and brother-in-law Roy Stavert of Kensington.
Besides his parents and his wife, Wendell was predeceased by his son Blair, brothers George ( Nina ) and Dr. Ralph , sister in infancy, brother-in-law Archie MacGregor and sister-in-law Devona Stavert.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside until Saturday, then to Trinity United Church, Summerside for funeral service at 2:30 p.m.. Interment to take place at a later date at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Valley. Visiting hours on Friday, 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. . Members of Hiram & Lebanon Masonic Lodge, Summerside will hold a Masonic Service on Friday evening at the funeral home at 9:00 p.m.. Memorial donations in Wendell's memory to the East Prince Funeral Home Chapel Building Fund or the P.E.I. Humane Society would be greatly appreciated.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
