Obituary of Lidstone, Bessie Mae
The death occurred peacefully at Margaret Stewart Ellis Home on Monday, February 22, 2021 of Bessie Mae Lidstone, age 98 years. Beloved wife of the late Howard Lidstone. Born in West Point, she was the daughter of the late James and Clara Smith. Loving mother of Shirley (Fred) Foley, Phyllis (Allan) Horne, Dale (Danita) Lidstone, Marilyn Lidstone (Glen Phillips), Pam (Peter) Griffin and daughter-in-law, Ada Lidstone. Predeceased by her oldest beloved son, Roy Lidstone, and her grandson Randy. She leaves to mourn her 18 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.
She is survived by her sister, Marion Hamzavi, in Ontario and sisters-in-law, Elsie Smith, Greta Paugh and Charlotte Lidstone.
Bessie grew up in West Point and was a housekeeper at a young age. She met Howard prior to him joining the Canadian Army and being deployed overseas during World War II. She joined the army and served in Halifax and Montreal. After the war, they were married and bought a farm in Knutsford where they worked side-by-side and raised a family of six until Howard's sudden passing in 1974. Bessie was an amazing wife, mother and grandmother and loved nothing better than cooking and having family visits. The children, babies and all the pets were highlights of her life.
Arrangements entrusted to East Prince Funeral Home. Due to Covid 19 restrictions a private funeral service will be held. If so desired, memorial donations may be made to Bethel United Church Cemetery in care of Claretta MacWilliams 6015 Rte 14 West Cape, O'Leary, PE C0B 1V0 or the PEI Humane Society.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
