Obituary of DesRoches, Christina
The passing of Christina DesRoches of Summerside, PEI, wife of the late Cyrus DesRoches occurred on Tuesday, February 11th , 2014 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, Fredericton, NB. Born on June 24th , 1928 in Richmond, PEI, she was the daughter of the late Elie and Annie (MacDougall) Blaquière.
She was a member of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church, Summerside, PEI and the Catholic Women's League. Christina enjoyed playing cards with family and friends; she also enjoyed knitting; at the young age of 65, she took up swimming and line dancing.
Christina's number one passion was being a grandmother. Christina was "The Boss of Her Four Boys", Douglas DesRoches (Debbie), Blaine DesRoches (Cheryl), Gregory DesRoches and Vance DesRoches; a passionate Gram to Wendy Reynolds (Paul), Tanya Bonham (Jeff), Trevor DesRoches, Kendra Frizzell (Aaron), Tara Hannay (Mike), Damian DesRoches, Dakota DesRoches, Jontae DesRoches and Jade DesRoches; a loving Great Gram to Emily, Johnathan, Owen, Carly, Andrew, Gemma, Noah, Jacob, Lucas and Kate; a treasured sister, Gertrude Prindiville (Dick); sister in law, Velma Blaquière; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her infant brother, Alexius Blaquière and brothers, Ralph and Lex (Linda) Blaquière.
Visitation will take place at the East Prince Funeral Home, Summerside, PEI on Thursday, February 13th , 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at the East Prince Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, February 14th , 2014 at 10:30 am. Interment will take place in St. Paul's Cemetery, Summerside at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
