Obituary of DesRoches, Helen Theresa
The death occurred peacefully at the South Shore Villa, Crapaud, P.E.I. on Monday, November 18th , 2013 of Helen Theresa DesRoches ( nee Noonan ), formerly of Borden-Carleton, P.E.I., aged 78 years. Helen was born on May 26th , 1935 in Searletown, P.E.I. to her late parents Loman and Cecelia ( nee Laughlin ) Noonan and step-mother Ida Noonan.
Beloved wife of Ralph DesRoches and loving mother of Allan ( Wilma ) of Calgary, AB., Sheila Sexton of Borden-Carleton, Marlene ( Billy ) Spencer of Charlottetown, Ivan ( Sue ) of MacKenzie, B.C., LoraLee ( Robert ) Madsen of Calgary, AB., Kim ( Brent ) Gregory of Standard, AB., Natalie ( Larry ) Allen of Borden-Carleton, Lana ( Blair ) Green of Searletown, Floyd ( Christine ) of Standard, AB. and Trent ( Tanya ) of Borden-Carleton. Also lovingly remembered by her 25 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Survived by her sisters Bernadette ( Malcolm ) McGregor of Williams Lake, B.C. and Bertha ( George ) Murphy of Charlottetown and her brothers Reggie Noonan of Freetown and Benny and Garnet Noonan both of Searletown.
Besides her parents, Helen was predeceased by her son-in-law Andrew Sexton, her sister Leta ( Austin ) DesRoches, her brother Leo Noonan, her niece Lesa DesRoches and her great-niece Codi-Lynn Coughlin.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Rd., Summerside until Saturday, November 23rd , then to St. Peter's Church, Seven Mile Bay for a funeral mass at 10:30 a.m.. Interment to take place in the church cemetery. Memorial donations in Helen's memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated. Visiting hours on Friday , 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
