Obituary of Gallant, Joseph " Elmer "
The death occurred peacefully at the Prince County Hospital,Summerside on Saturday, October 18th , 2008 of Joseph 'Elmer' Gallant of Summerside, aged 79 years. Elmer was born in Piusville, P.E.I. on January 26th , 1929 to his late parents, Mosie & Loretta ( nee Martin ) Gallant.
He leaves to mourn his wife Marjorie ( nee Wall ) and his children Kevin of Scarborough, On. & Cheryl ( Peter ) Whillans of Brampton, On. , his step-children Richard ( Michelle ) MacRae of Richmond, B.C., Joan MacRae ( Terry Brauen ) of Quispamsis, N.B., John ( Rhonda ) MacRae of Sioux Lookout, On. & Darren MacRae of Ch'town. Also loving remembered by his grandchildren Jamie, Richard & Derek Gallant,Jessica, Evan & Cameron Whillans , his step-grandchildren Claire & Alasdair MacRae, Kara & Emily Brauen & Jake & Parker MacRae, along with several nieces & nephews. Survived by his brothers & sisters : Leo , Edgar , Alyre ( Margaret ), Mildred ( Clarence ) Pineau, Tilman ( Irma ) , Edna ( Bill ) Matthews, Beatrice ( Tony ) Doiron & Marie Nabozay , his step-brother Clifford ( Rita ) Gallant of Aurora , On. and his step-sister Marion ( Jim ) Gallant of S'side.
Besides his parents, Elmer was predeceased by his brother Martin , his sisters-in-law Theresa & Lois Gallant and his brother-in-law Joe Nabozay.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside until Wednesday, Oct. 22nd for funeral mass at St. Paul's Church, S'side at 10:30 a.m.. Interment to take place in the church cemetery. Visiting hours on Tuesday, 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 p.m.. Memorial donations in Elmer's memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
