Obituary of Gallant, Bernadette Margaret
The death occurred peacefully and surrounded by her family at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside on Tuesday, July 29th , 2008 of Bernadette Margaret Gallant ( nee Pineau ) of Summerside , aged 84 years. Bernadette was born on January 31st , 1924 in Hope River, P.E.I. to her late parents Peter & Rosella ( nee Arsenault ) Pineau .
Beloved wife of the late Edmund Gallant & loving mother of Debbie Gallant ( Ken Miller ) of Stratford, Monica ( Terry ) Smith of Kingston , N.S. , Fred ( Joy ) of S'side, Patrick ( Kathy ) of S'side, Robert ( Dianne ) of Wellington and her daughter-in-law Debra Gallant of S'side. Also lovingly remembered by her 9 grandchildren , 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. Survived by her sister Cynthia ( Sandy ) Duff of Ottawa, On., her brothers Ivan ( Leona ) Pineau , Vernon ( Marion ) Pineau , Eugene Pineau all of S'side, Ronnie ( Marie ) Pineau of Slemon Park, Earl ( Ricky ) Pineau of S'side & Doug Pineau of Moncton, N.B. and her brothers-in-law Phil Malone of S'side and Greg Buteau of Bellville, On.
Besides her husband and her parents , Bernadette was predeceased by her son Michael , her sisters Evelyn ( Alfred ) Burke, Theresa Malone & Clarice Buteau.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Rd., Summerside until Friday, August 1st , 2008 for funeral mass at St. Paul's Church , Summerside at 10:30 a.m.. Interment to take place in the church cemetery. Visiting hours on Thursday , 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 p.m. . Memorial donations in Bernadette's memory to Community Connections, S'side, the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
