Obituary of Bowness, Edith Gertrude
The death occurred peacefully at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, on Friday, May 2nd ,2008 of Edith Gertrude Bowness (nee Whitehead) of 240 C LeFurgey Ave. Summerside, P.E.I. , aged 85 years.
Edith was the last surviving member of the family of the late John W.& Etta Iza (Heaney) Whitehead. Edith was born in Clinton PEI on May 30th , 1922.
Loving wife of the late Lloyd George Bowness and loving mother of Elizabeth ( John ) Walker, Summerside, Eleanor (Al) Pasanen, Courtney, B.C., Kenneth ( Donna) Chilliwack, B.C., Barry (Susan), Summerside and Kathy (Dan)Higgins, Fort Smith N.W.T. Also lovingly remembered by her fourteen grandchildren, her 18 great-grandchildren, her one great-great-grandchild and several nieces & nephews. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Joan (Russ) Fulton U.S.A. Besides her parents, Edith was predeceased by her brothers and sisters: Harry, Verna, Lena, Grace, Armel, Lois and Mildred.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside until Wednesday May 7, 2008 for memorial service at 11:00 AM in the funeral chapel. Visiting hours Tuesday 7-9 PM only. Interment to take place in People's Cemetery, Summerside. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Edith's memory to People's Cemetery, Summerside would be appreciated.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
