Obituary of Ballum, Mary Catherine
The death occurred surrounded by her family at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside on Sunday, April 30th , 2006 of Mary Catherine Ballum ( nee Arsenault ) of 14 Dale Dr., Summerside and formerly of Grand River, aged 58 years. Mary was born in Summerside , P.E.I. on August 9th , 1947 to her parents, Marguerite Arsenault and the late William Arsenault .
Beloved wife of Donnie and loving mother of Miranda ( Kirk ) Ashley of S'side and Melissa ( Stuart ) MacMaster of Stratford. Special nanny of Evan Ballum of S'side and Blake MacMaster of Stratford and lovingly remembered by several nieces and nephews.
Survived by her brothers and sisters : Eric ( Peggy ) Arsenault of Bunbury ; Diane ( Stanley ) Arsenault of S'side ; Lorne ( Helen ) Arsenault of Grand River ; Carol ( Muncey ) Shields of Grand River ; Bernice ( Bob ) Ault of Bridgewater, N.S. ; Kirk ( Lynn ) Arsenault of S'side ; and Lorraine ( Ivers ) Grigg of Springhill. Also survived by her father -in-law Clayton Ballum of Tyne Valley and her brothers & sisters-in-law : Norman ( Anita ) Ballum of Toronto, Ont. ; Louise Ballum of Toronto, Ont. ; Vivian ( Jack ) Quinn of Ch'town ; Mary ( Mike ) Morrison-Ross of S'side ; Cathy ( Kevin ) MacDougall of Grand River ; Shirley ( Chester ) Noye of Enmore ; Sharon ( Stanley ) Yeo of Richmond ; Michael ( Kim ) Ballum of Poplar Grove ; Richard ( Tracey ) Ballum of S'side ; Gloria ( George )MacCaull of Tyne Valley ; Edith ( Ian ) MacDougall of Tyne Valley ; and Dorothy ( Kevin ) McKeigan of Ch'town . Predeceased by her father William Arsenault and her mother-in-law Eva Ballum.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Rd.,Summerside until Wednesday, then to St. Paul's Church , Summerside for funeral mass at 10:30 A.M.. Interment to take place in People's Cemetery, Summerside. No flowers
by personal request. Memorial donations in Mary's memory to St. Patrick's Church Building Fund, Grand River or the Oncology Unit of the Prince County Hospital, S'side would be greatly appreciated. Visiting hours on Tuesday , 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 P.M. .

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
