Obituary of Murphy, Martena
Murphy : The death occurred peacefully at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Sharon Tassell, Clermont, P.E.I. on Monday August 1st 2005 of Martena Murphy (nee Brink) of Summerside aged 78 years. Beloved wife of the late Justin Murphy of Clermont. Born in Holland she was the daughter of the late John and Marchien (Meulema) Brink of Montague. She is survived by her son Bill (Sharon) Tassell of Clermont, stepson Dan (Angela) Murphy, Cornerbrook, Nfld, stepdaughter Colleen (Allen King) Murphy, Toronto, sisters-in-law Kay Brink, BC, Isabelle Brink and Marie Murphy of, PEI, and grandchildren Dana (Laurier St. Louis) and Ashley Tassell, step grandchildren Robert, Michael and Kathryn Murphy and August Murphy King and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her first husband, Fred (Bunty) Tassell, her second husband Justin Murphy, and her brothers Klaas and
Bart Brink. Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside where a memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday followed by an Eastern Star memorial service. No visiting hours by personal request. Flowers gratefully declined. Memorial donations in Martena's memory to the Prince County Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. Interment of ashes in Annandale United Church Cemetery.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
