Obituary of MacKinnon, Robert Emmett
?MacKinnon : The death occurred peacefully at the Prince County Hospital , Summerside on Saturday , February 19th , 2005 of Robert Emmett MacKinnon of Summerside and formerly of Grand River in his 81st year . Beloved husband of the late Mary Jane ( nee Jeffery ) MacKinnon . Loving father of Barbara ( Paul ) Gallant of S'side , step-father of Harold ( Shirley ) MacNevin of S'side and Margaret Perry ( special friend Mike Charbonneau ) of S'side. Also lovingly remembered by his two grandsons Patrick and Gregory LeClerc , his sister Rita ( Raymond ) Campbell of Southwest Lot # 16 , by Barbara's mother Dorothy Griffin-Farish of Grand River , along with numerous nieces , nephews , and step-grandchildren . Predeceased by his parents Basil and Nelly ( nee MacDonald ) MacKinnon , his brothers Austin , George and Stephen , his half-sister Anne Marie McInnis , his niece Catherine MacKinnon , and his nephew Blair Campbell . Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home , 245 Pope Rd. ,Summerside until Wednesday , then to St. Paul's Church, S'side for funeral mass at 10:30 A.M. . Interment to take place in St. Patrick's Cemetery , Grand River at a later date . Memorial donation's in Robert's memory to the Prince County Hospital Foundation or to St. Patrick's Cemetery Fund would be greatly appreciated . Visiting hours on Tuesday , 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 P.M. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the East Prince Funeral Home , Summerside .

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
