Obituary of Marlene Lynn Grant
The death occurred peacefully at the O’Leary Community Hospital, O’Leary, P.E.I. on Friday March 17th, 2023, of Marlene Lynn Grant of Grand River, P.E.I., aged 69 years. Marlene was born in Summerside, P.E.I. to the late Celestine and Margaret (Gillis) MacLellan.
Beloved wife of Harold Grant and loving mother of Daniel (Nancy), Adam (Elizabeth), Janelle (Khristin) Sobey, and Brittany (David) MacDougall. Grandchildren Danielle, Olivia, Carter, Cameron, Jackson and Brayden.
Survived by her siblings Urban (Jeanette) MacLellan, June (David) Yeo, brothers and siters in-law Daniel Grant, Wayne (Helen) Grant, Greg (Donna) Grant, Terry (Ron) Yeo, many nieces, nephews, as well as numerous cousins.
Predeceased by her beloved sister Sheila (John) Trepanier, sisters in-law Betty McIsaac and Noreen Grant.
Marlene was selfless, positive and loving. She loved her family, her pets, her garden, and feeding crowds of people. She was known by all as a terrific cook and exceptional crib player. The family would like to give special thanks to Gurbir Martin and the staff of Tyne Valley Heath Center, the staff of Ambulatory Care at PCH, staff of Home Care Summerside, and the staff at O’Leary Community Hospital. Marlene was so grateful for the outstanding care she received. The family would also like to thank Father Handrahan for his visits during her illness. Her faith was so important to her. There was no one like her, and she will be deeply missed.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside until Tuesday, March 21st, where a funeral mass will be held in St. Patrick’s Church, Grand River at 11:00 a.m. Interment to take place in the church cemetery at a later date. In memory of Marlene, donations can be made to Keeping Cats Homed or St. Patrick’s Church Building Fund.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
