Obituary of Hazel Mabel Mallett
The death occurred peacefully surrounded by her loving family at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, P.E.I. on Thursday, February 8th, 2024 of Hazel Mabel Mallett (Cotton) of Summerside and formerly of Miscouche, P.E.I, aged 90 years. Hazel was born in Miscouche to the late John and Annie (MacNeill) Cotton.
Beloved wife of the late Fred Mallett and loving mother of Jean Hoitsma, Barbara Anne Poirier, Wanda Mallett, Fred “Junior” Mallett, Peter (Elizabeth) Mallett, Patsy (Roy) Arsenault, and Annie (Mike) Arsenault. Also lovingly remembered by daughters-in-law Debbie Mallett and Karen Mallett; as well as many grandchildren, and great grandchildren – too numerous to mention but all loved.
Survived by her sister Louise (Dale) Montgomery, and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her daughters Joyce Cormier and Mary Newsome, sons Brian and Paul Mallett, brothers Elmer and Rob, sisters Ruby and Lila and sons-in-law Clarence Cormier and Wayne Poirier.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside. Until Tuesday, February 13th, 2024, when a funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 a.m. Interment to take place in the Floral Hills Memorial Garden Cemetery, PleasantValley at a later date. Memorial donations in Hazel’s memory can be made directly to the Prince County Hospital Foundation.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
