Obituary of Richard Lea Birch
The death occurred peacefully Surrounded by his loving family at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, P.E.I. on Thursday, April 11th, 2024 of Richard Lea Birch of Summerside and formerly of Borden Carleton, PEI, aged 72 years. Richard was born in Summerside to the late Lea and Ena (Ferguson) Birch.
Loving father of Tanya Birch (Norman Paynter) and Krista (James) Hagen and their mother Corinne Birch. Also lovingly remembered by his 3 grandchildren Aliya, Carson and Mason.
Survived by his sisters Joyce (Gordon) Phillips, Shirley (Alan) McIvor and Marilyn Birch and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Richard was predeceased by his mother and father in-law Albert and Ora “Nanny O” Morrison.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Rd., Summerside. Until Monday April 15th, then to Trinity United Church, Summerside for a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Interment to take place in the Searletown Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations in Richard’s memory can be made directly to the Lennon House. Visiting hours on Sunday from 2 - 4 p.m.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
