Obituary of Joseph Elmer DesRoches
The death occurred peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the O’Leary Community Hospital, O’Leary on Saturday April 13th, 2024 of Joseph “Elmer” DesRoches of Summerside, P.E.I., aged 91 years. Elmer was born in Summerside to the late Leonard and Mary-Ann (Peters) DesRoches.
Beloved husband of Doris (Gallant) DesRoches and loving father of Jack (Ann), JoAnn (Danny) Thompson, Robert (Joanne), David, Joseph, and Stephen. He dearly loved his Grandchildren and his Great Grandchildren.
Survived by his brothers and sisters Allie (Rita), Marie Doucette, Betsy (Bobby) Keough and Don, sister in-law Joyce DesRoches and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his son Carl, daughter Marie, brothers Jim and Stan DesRoches, sisters Shirley (Ernest) Arsenault, Janet (Robbie) Robinson and brother-in-law Lloyd Doucette.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside until Saturday April 20, 2024 where a funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 a.m. Interment to take place in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Summerside at a later date. Memorial donations in Elmer’s memory can be made directly to the O’Leary Community Hospital or the Prince County Hospital Foundation. Visiting hours on Friday evening from 6 – 8 p.m.
ABOUT US
In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
