Obituary of Alyre Gallant
The death occurred peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Prince County Hospital on Tuesday June 4th, 2024 of John “Alyre” Gallant of Summerside aged 97 years. Alyre was born in St. Gilbert, PEI to the late Belonie and Justine (Arsenault) Gallant. Beloved husband to the late Mary (nee Barriault) Gallant. Alyre was reunited with the love of his life on their 77th Wedding Anniversary.
Alyre will be missed by his children Roger (Judy) Gallant, Roma (Jim) Steele, Gary -deceased (Eva), Paul-deceased, Peter (Christine) Gallant, Anne (Paul) Butler, David (Lori Adams) Gallant, Dennis (Rachael) Gallant. Also lovingly remembered by his 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, sister in-law Louise Gallant as well as several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his brother Henry (Theresa) Gallant, sister Marie (Jeff) Young, and great grandson Camden.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home 245 Pope Rd. Summerside, until Saturday June 8th, 2024 where a funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 10:30 a.m. Interment to take place in St. Paul’s Church Cemetery. Donations in Alyre’s memory can be made directly to the Prince County Hospital Foundation. Friday June 7th, a Legion service will be held at 3:45 pm, and visiting hours from 4 – 7 p.m.
ABOUT US
In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
