Obituary of Susan Jennifer MacDonald
It is with a great sense of loss that we announce the passing of Susan MacDonald of Summerside on August 11, 2024 through MAID at the Prince County Hospital.
Susan was the only child of Minnie (Cornell) and Fraser MacDonald of Toronto and Paris, Ontario born on September 30, 1953. She is survived by her cousin, Cynthia (Cindy) Clegg of Dunrobin, Ontario and her family.
Susan discovered the joys of Prince Edward Island after a fascinating career as an international trade representative for the Government of Ontario with postings in locations like Los Angeles, Chicago and Singapore and as personal wealth advisor for the Bank of Montreal.
After a long search for the right landing spot, Susan surprised her new neighbourhood with the arrival of three moving vans and a truck eight years ago. What she didn’t know at the time was that she had landed into the arms of the kindest and most generous community Susan would ever know.
Her neighbours and tight circle of friends became Susan’s lifeline to the outside world as cancer and her self-imposed restrictions kept her to tied to her home most of the time. We cannot thank them enough for their unending caring and considerations of the inside details of US politics, the Blue Jays, the Maple Leafs, world soccer (all hemispheres), and until her very last hours – the Olympics.
A very special thanks to Ron and Robert, Heather and Blair, Evelyn and JoAnne for everything you did every day you were allowed to help.
Thank you to the exceptional medical team who did whatever they could to make life easier for Susan including Palliative Care Coordinator, Melissa Bagnall, Doctors John Morash and Jonathan Sharpe and her nurses at PCH.
Susan requested that any donations be made to the Salvation Army or the Summerside Food Bank. A private celebration of life will be organized at a later date.
ABOUT US
In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
