Obituary of Elmer Joseph Perry
Death came peacefully at the Prince County Hospital on Wednesday, August 15th, 2024, for J.E. Elmer Perry of Hawthorne Avenue, Summerside, aged 91 years. Elmer was born in Summerside in 1933 to his late parents Jean Baptiste & Suzanne (Gallant) Perry. Beloved husband of Marie (Arsenault) Perry and father to James (Dianne) of Summerside and Clayton (Carol) Perry of Mississauga, Ontario. Also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Melanie, Carolyn (Caridad), Jason & Matthew, predeceased by grandson Christopher (2010).
Survived by the following sisters and brother, Shirley (Neale) Lefler, Lillian (Victor) Savoie & John B (Diane) Perry. And many loved nieces & nephews. Predeceased by nine other brothers and sisters.
Elmer served 28 years in the Royal Canadian Air Force and Canadian Armed Forces where he rose to the rank of Master Warrant Officer. He served in the Transport Section and drove everything from staff cars to fuel tenders to bulldozers, cranes, and buses. He retired to Summerside and lived in a couple of different homes until buying and restoring a home on Hawthorne Avenue. He was also an excellent carpenter and many residences in Summerside have reminders of his work. A jack of all trades, Elmer’s hobby was looking for stuff that other people had no more use for. He would take it all apart, often restoring it to working condition, or just learning how it worked.
Following his wishes there will be no funeral service. Interment will be in the People’s Cemetery, McEwen Road, Summerside.
ABOUT US
In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
