Obituary of Burnley, Alan

It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Alan Burnley of Newton, PEI, aged 93, at the Prince County Hospital on Sunday, April 19th, 2020. Predeceased by his loving wife Jean (MacDonald) of Charlottetown in 1977. Alan was the beloved father of Gwenda, Alana (David Smith), Paul (Charlene Arsenault), Carol (Rodney Arsenault) and David (Christine Breton). Cherished grandfather to Angela (Nav Dhillon), Darren Arsenault, Sherry Sonier, Russell (Debbie) Banks and Patrick (Shandi) Banks. Special Papa to many great-grandchildren. Alan proudly served as a member of the Canadian Armed Forces and after his retirement drove a school bus for Unit # 2 in Kinkora. Affectionately called Mr. B by the students, he greeted everyone with a big smile, loving personality and a sense of humour that we all knew and loved. Alan was an avid soccer player in his younger days and remained a proud supporter of the Burnley Clarets soccer team after emigrating to Canada from the United Kingdom. Alan was known for his great love of animals, adopting and caring for many pets over his lifetime. He was also a devoted runner and cyclist in his earlier years but was best known as a caring father, grandfather and friend. He will be sadly missed by all of us. A special thanks to Dr. Arsenault-Sampson, Dr. Sharpe, Dr. Muhammad, and the various nurses and staff at the Prince County Hospital and PEI Home Care Program. Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, Summerside, PEI. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be no visitation. Family memorial service to be held at a later date. If so desired, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the PEI Humane Society.
