Obituary of MacDonald, "Sandy" John Alexander
"Sandy" John Alexander MacDonald, aged 59, passed away peacefully, at Wedgewood Manor, Summerside, on April 17, 2020, after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his two daughters, Elizabeth MacDonald (Fredericton), Ellen MacDonald (Stephen Oliver), Halifax; siblings Marilyn (Glen Robertson), Mission, B.C., Norman Lee (Linda), Toronto, Margot (James Martin), Halifax; and nieces, Meagan Robertson, Kate Robertson, Melissa Lee, and nephews, Adam Robertson and David Lee. He was predeceased by his parents, Elaine and W. Chester S. MacDonald and his brother, W.C. Scott MacDonald.
Sandy was born in Summerside. He attended Mount Allison University where he played varsity football. A teacher, Sandy taught high school in Manitoba. He returned to Summerside where he owned and operated a business, served as a Summerside Town councilor, and was a member of the Summerside Kinsmen Club. He then taught in Moncton, N.B. and Sackville N.B. He was especially known for his love and success in working with youth who had special learning needs. On his retirement, Sandy returned to Prince Edward Island. He is pictured here at his favorite place.
Sandy was interested in everything and had a wealth of knowledge of a wide variety of subjects. He enjoyed listening to others and telling stories. He had an amazing group of friends from his early days who rallied around during his hospitalization and helped keep up his spirits.
Thanks to you all. Thank you to the medical and care staff at Prince County Hospital, and Wedgewood Manor. Your professionalism, empathy, and constant care, was second to none.
A special hug to Julie, Elizabeth and Ellen's mom, who stayed at Sandy's bedside in his last hours when, due to Covid-19 restrictions, the rest of his family could not.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Rd., Summerside. Arrangements to be announced at a later date. Interment to take place in People's Cemetery, Summerside at a later date. Memorial donations in Sandy's memory to the Prince County Hospital Foundation, or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
