Obituary of Bernard, Raymond "Ray"

It is with great sadness that the families of Raymond "Ray" John Bernard announce his passing on Thursday, August 23rd, 2018 at the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow, NS after a lengthy illness. Ray better known by his nickname "Corn" given to him for his love of the Montreal Canadians and one of his favorite players Yvan Cournoyer. Ray spent most of his working life in Summerside, except for one adventurous year in Toronto. During his professional time, he worked as a bricklayer, golf course attendant, and a VLT technician. Ray loved to watch and play golf, do woodworking and play a good game of cards. Ray is survived by his wife of almost six years Marjorie Savoie Bernard (Cahill), who he lovingly called "Margie". They enjoyed some travels together before his illness struck and saw Puerto Rico, Cayman Islands, Jamaica, Mexico and other ports of call while on cruises, as well as a trip to Quebec. He is also survived by his loving sisters Rose Chowen, and Gerarda Bernard both of Charlottetown and Jean Marchand of Summerside as well as brother Edward in Ontario and all of their families. Ray found love late in life and married Margie in September 2012 and was embraced by his stepfamily. Ray a close part of the family will be missed by step-daughters Donna, Michele, Suzanne, Nicole and their families. Ray was predeceased by his parents Edward "Eddie" and Margaret (Leclair) Bernard of St Louis PEI, a brother William and special nephew David. Cremation has taken place and his remains will rest at East Prince Funeral Home in Summerside PEI with visitations from 11am-12: 45 pm on Wednesday, August 29th, followed by a funeral service at St Paul's Roman Catholic Church at 1:00 pm. A reception for all will be held at St Paul's parish hall following the funeral service with the CWL providing support. We the family would like to thank all of those who helped care for Ray during his illness especially the VON Pictou County, Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care, Dr. Kwasnick, and the 5th Floor long-term care wing. Rest easy Ray your pain has ended we love you and will miss you.
