Obituary of MacKinnon, Douglas Alexander
The death occurred as a result of an accident at his mechanic shop at his late residence on Thursday, March 15, 2018 of Douglas Alexander "Doug" MacKinnon, of Borden-Carleton, age 62. Left to mourn are his mother Carmen MacKinnon of Charlottetown and formerly of Springhill PEI, and his siblings Carol MacKinnon (Sam Evans) of Charlottetown, Earlene McKinnon-Gray (Bob Gray) of Charlottetown, Donald MacKinnon (Noelle) of Indian Point NS, David MacKinnon (Wendy) of Medicine Hat AB, Gladys MacKinnon of Middleton NS, and Richard MacKinnon of Sammamish, WA USA.
Doug was predeceased by his father Frank MacKinnon of Springhill. Doug was highly respected and loved by his family, his large circle of friends, his community, those who bought used cars from him, and all who knew him. He was a constant âtease,' and was therefore adored by his nieces and nephews who grew up around him. âUncle Doug' was the one for whom everyone waited to arrive at family gatherings, and will be particularly missed by Alexa and Victoria Evans, Sarah MacKinnon and Emily Rideout, Matthew and Tristan McKinnon-Gray, Donald and Kate Price, and Eliana and Simone MacKinnon.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Rd., Summerside until Tuesday, March 20th,where a funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 p.m. Interment to take place in Victoria West People Cemetery, Victoria West at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Doug's memory to the Amherst Cove Consolidated School would be greatly appreciated. Visiting hours on Monday evening from 6 - 8 p.m.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
