Obituary of DesRoches, John Joseph Alfred
It is with sadness, we the family of John Joseph "Alfred" DesRoches, announce that his death occurred at the Summerset Manor, Summerside on Monday, May 30th, 2016 at the age of 83 years. Alfred was born in Miscouche to his late parents Augustin and Dina DesRoches (nee Gallant) and he lived in Miscouche until he moved to the Manor.
He was a friend and devoted husband to Norma (nee McNeill) and a dear father to Mary Lynn of Cumberland BC., Dina (Mike Lyriotokis) of Stratford, PE., John (Julie McNeill) of Wellington and Carol Williams (Trevor) of Ottawa. He was predeceased by his much loved first born son, Michael. He was cherished grandfather of Jack and Charlie DesRoches and Ella and Lily Williams.
He is survived by his step siblings- Leonard Gallant (Eileen Axworthy), Estelle Dalton (George), Eric Gallant (Maureen), Delma Gallant (Tom) and their families. Alfred is survived by his sister-in-law Patricia Arsenault (Leonard) and his sister-in-law Betty McNeill and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Alfred was predeceased by his parents - in-law Bertha and Emmett McNeill, his brothers-in-law Lorne and Justin McNeill and his sister-in-law Patricia McNeill.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Rd., Summerside until Thursday, June 2nd, then to St. John the Baptist Church, Miscouche for a funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment to take place in church cemetery. Donations in Alfred's memory to St. John the Baptist Cemetery would be greatly appreciated. Visiting hours on Wednesday evening only from 6 - 9 p.m.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
