Obituary of Arsenault, Alfred Joseph
With much sorrow and deep sadness in our hearts we, the family of Joseph Alfred (Freddy) Arsenault of Summerside, formerly of Miscouche, announce his death which occurred at Prince County Hospital, Summerside, P.E.I. on Wednesday, November 5th, 2014 at the age of 85 years. Alfred was born in St. Chrysostome, P.E.I. to his late parents Andre and Leonide Arsenault.
He was the loving and devoted husband of Elva (Gallant) Arsenault and the dear father to Melvin (Linda) of Indian River, Allan (Marguerite) of Fort McMurray, AB, Theresa (Robert) Landry of Wainwright, AB, Helen (Michael) Lucker and Denise of Ottawa, ON. Cherished grandfather to Ethain, Avery, Jenny, Julie and Tristen. He was the very proud and happy "Old Pepe" to his five great-granddaughters April, Abbygail, Camille, Penny and Madison.
Survived by his daughter-in-law, Donalda "Dee" Wood, brothers and sisters, Raymond (Betty), Andrew, Jr. (Kitty), Marie Hebert and Julia Leclair.
Predeceased by his eldest son Earl, brothers and sisters, Joe, Emile, Albin, Sally Nicholson, Sr. Aline CND and Alma McCaffery, brothers and sisters in-law Malcom Nicholson, Solange Arsenault, Phil McCaffery, Edgar Hebert, Gerry LeClair and Jeannine and Jeannette Arsenault.
Alfred was a devoted member of the community of Miscouche. He was a very active member of the St. John the Baptist Parish, having been a very faithful member of the Church Choir for over 50 years. He was also a volunteer of the Miscouche Fire Department, having served as Fire Chief for a number of years.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside until Monday, November 10th then to St. John the Baptist Church, Miscouche for a funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment to take place at a later date in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Alfred's memory to the Alzheimer's Society or the Miscouche Cemetery Fund would be greatly appreciated. Visiting hours on Sunday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
