Obituary of Batten, Robert Irving

The death occurred peacefully at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside , P.E.I. on Wednesday, March 26th , 2014 of Robert "Bob" Irving Batten of Summerside, aged 85 years. Bob was born on October 23rd , 1928 in Montreal, Quebec to his late parents William Charles and Louise Isabel (nee Smith) Batten.
Beloved husband of the late Freda (nee Gallant) Batten and loving father of Sandra Batten of Summerside and Bruce (Sian) of Calgary, AB. Also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Laura Rooney, Chelsea & Jenna Batten all of Calgary, AB. and many nieces and nephews. Survived by his sister Ruth Hall of Mahwah, New Jersey.
Besides his parents and wife, Bob was predeceased by his sisters Audrey (Ken) Cheam and Mildred (Gordon) Kane and his brother-in-law Leonard Hall.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside until WEDNESDAY, April 2nd for a funeral service in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 a.m.. Interment to take place in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Valley, P.E.I. at a later date. Memorial donations in Bob's memory to the Prince County Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated. No visiting hours by personal request.

In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
