Obituary of Winnie Cairns
The death occurred peacefully surrounded by her loving family at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, PEI on Monday, December 9, 2024 of Winnifred “Winnie” Cairns (Mattheson) of Summerside and formerly of Shamrock, P.E.I. aged 86 years.
Winnie was born in Charlottetown, P.E.I. to the late John and Bessie Mattheson (Warren).
Beloved wife of the late Eldon Cairns and loving mother of Mary Cairns, Robert (Cathy), Lena (Wally) MacRae, Hillard (Jacqui). Also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Kim (Tim), Josh (Tia), Josh Lewis, Becki, Jeremey, John Robert (Crystal), Kail, Jillian. Amber and Danielle, great grandchildren Andon, Dallin, Trinity, Isaiah, Noah, Tristan, Linkin, Jazmin and Brennan. Fondly remembered by Kayla and Nick Lynch, Jeremy and Chelsea Snow and families and three very special friends, Olivene Gallant, June Cormier and Leona Raynor.
Survived by her brothers and sisters Sussie (Jack), Elmer (Alice), Annie, Marion (Gord), Mary, Dora, Warren (Amy), Eldon and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her brother Johnny and numerous brothers-in-law.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Rd, Summerside until Friday, December 13th, 2024 where a funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 a.m. Interment to take place in Westmoreland Baptist Cemetery in West Moreland at a later date. Donations in Winnie’s memory may be made directly to the Summerside Salvation Army. Visiting hours on Thursday from 4 – 6 p.m.

ABOUT US
In the late 1980's, a group of citizens from the East Prince area met to discuss the possibility of establishing a co-operative funeral home. Two such homes were operating successfully in Prince County, namely the West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road and the Evangeline Funeral Home in Urbainville. As a result, on January 24th, 1989, the East Prince Funeral Co-operative Ltd. was formed.
